Description:
ArteFill® is an FDA approved treatment for nasolabial folds (smile lines) and is also used off label for lip augmentation, other wrinkles, and acne scars. Artefill®, formerly known as Artecoll, has been used in Europe and Canada for the last 10 yrs. ArteFill® is a gel filler consisting of millions and millions of synthetic microspheres (polymethylmethacrylate or PMMA) inside purified bovine (cow) collagen.
ArteFill® is a dual-acting injectable. First, ArteFill® visibly corrects the wrinkle. Then, the microspheres within the ArteFill® provide permanent support your skin needs for long lasting wrinkle correction.
Procedure Length:
Most procedures take 20-30 minutes depending on the amount of injections needed. More treatments may be needed if optimal results aren’t reached.
Side Effects:
Swelling, lumpiness, redness, pain, and sensitivity are side effects from ArteFill® injections. Some patients may feel some firmness after injection which usually resides within a couple days.
Recovery:
Recovery from ArteFill® injections is usually immediate.
Risks:
People have reported lighter skin color around the injection areas.
Results:
ArteFill® doesn’t get absorbed and usually has permanent, lasting effects. All other injectables are absorbed by the body.
Patient Status:
Usually procedure is done in doctor’s office. Outpatient.
Anesthesia:
Local to assist with pain.
