Breast Lift
Description:

Breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is performed when a woman wants to reshape sagging breasts. There are different forms of breast lifts, all performed in different cases which depend on the significance of the excess skin and individual needs of the patient. Breast lifts may be performed with or without the use of breast implants. The degree of lift needed will determine how many incisions in the breasts need to be made - typically between one and three incisions.

Procedure Length:
Breast lifts usually take around two to three hours.
Side Effects:
Swelling, bruising, bleeding, discomfort, decreased movement, and soreness.
Recovery:
There may be some pain during the recovery process which are alleviated by medication. Stitches are usually removed weekly in increments. Heavy lifting and strenuous activities should be avoided for at least one month to avoid possible complications.
Risks:
Dissatisfaction of results, permanent loss in sensitivity, scarring, and reaction to anesthesia.
Results:
Breast lifts are usually long lasting. Aging, weight fluctuations, and gravity will all effect results of breast lifts.
Patient Status:
Outpatient. Usually performed in surgeon's office or hospital. In some cases overnight recovery is needed.
Anesthesia:
Local or general.
