Eyelid Surgery
Description:
Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty) helps rejuvenate the areas around your eyes by correcting excess fatty deposits, loose and saggy skin, bags under the eyes, droopiness in the eyelids, and fine wrinkles in the lower eyelid. This procedure is done for both men and women who have healthy facial tissue and muscles. If you have any visual or medical conditions consult your doctor about this.
Procedure Length:
Eyelid surgery generally takes between one and three hours for both eyes.
Side Effects:
Temporarily blurred or impaired vision, dry eyes, difficulty closing your eyes, bruising, tightness of eyelids, and itching may occur.
Recovery:
Ointments and oral pain medication may be giving to assist in proper recovery. Patients should return to normal activities within ten days and should be able to read within two to three days.
Risks:
Similar to any surgical operation, there are a few risks which can be minimized if the proper doctor is chosen. Some risks of eyelid surgery are scarring, poor wound healing, infection, fluid accumulation, and blood clots.
Results:
Many years, sometimes permanent.
Patient Status:
Typically outpatient. If outpatient, you should have a driver take you home.
Anesthesia:
Intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.
