Jaw Implant

Description

Jaw implants are designed to give balance and prominence to the face through enhancing the jaw line. Incisions are made on either side of the lower lip, and the FDA approved plates are inserted as desired. This procedure can give improved self confidence through a more balanced jaw line.

Procedure Length

Jaw implants take between thirty minutes to one hour.

Side Effects

Bleeding, swelling, redness, and bruising will subside within several days.

Recovery

You may return to work within about one week. Chewing and flexibility in mouth will be restricted within first few weeks of recovery. Strenuous activities should also be limited for about six to eight weeks.

Risks

Similar to any surgical implants, complications can occur. The risk of scarring, excessive bleeding, clotting, hyperpigmentation, and nerve damage are all rare but may occur. Rarely, the implants need to be removed and replaced.

Results

Results are usually permanent depending on the type of implants placed.

Patient Status

Outpatient. Usually in doctor’s office or hospital. Sometimes patient may stay overnight for proper recovery.

Anesthesia

Usually local but general may be administered if requested.
