Juvederm®
Description:
Juvederm® is a facial filler used to reduce smiles lines, wrinkles and folds found in the face. It provides volume to areas in the face through a simple injection. Juvederm® is the only hyaluronic acid filler that lasts up to one year and is FDA approved. Also, Juvederm® is the first injectable filler that is proven safe for and effective for persons with dark pigmentation. Approved by the FDA in June, 2006, Juvederm® was created by the same company as Botox®.
Procedure Length:
Usually about fifteen minutes depending on amount of injections.
Side Effects:
Redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, firmness, lumping, bruising, itching, and discoloration. Most reactions subside in about a week.
Recovery:
Recovery is immediate. There is little downtime except for the side effects listed above.
Risks:
There is a small risk of infection and allergic reaction from the hyaluronic acid.
Results:
Because Juvederm® is naturally absorbed into the body; it lasts for up to one year. Most commonly, touch ups are needed around six months later.
