Restylane®

Description

Restylane® has gained its popularity as a facial filler since its approval with the FDA since December, 2003. Composed of hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring sugar compound, which is eventually absorbed into the body), Restylane® can produce positive results on facial wrinkles and provide volume to the mouth area and lips. Restylane® has become one of the most popular facial filler treatments today.

Procedure Length

Usually around fifteen to thirty minutes depending on number of injections.

Side Effects

Temporary bleeding, swelling, possible scabbing, headache, nausea, redness, and pain at injection points.

Recovery

Normal activities may be resumed immediately, although staying out of the sun is recommended. Swelling may last for two to three days.

Risks

Greatest risks include infections or allergic reactions to Restylane®. Rarely, you may feel muscle weakness. Consult your physician about possible risks.

Results

About 80% of wrinkles should be reduced after Restylane® injections. The results are temporary, usually lasting from four to six months.
